Greetings on a not-so-fall-like day! We were so relieved to have daytime temperatures in the 60's and 70's, but to our dismay it was a short-lived phase. We are excited to have so many fun fall activities around town. Just this evening on my way home from Mass, I could smell the hot dogs roasting as UK fans prepared for the game against Auburn. Football certainly is a sign of fall.
We are also blessed to live in Lexington during such an exciting event: tomorrow is the closing ceremony for the World Equestrian Games. This is the first time the games have ever been hosted outside of Europe. It has not only brought many international visitors to Lexington, but the town has been abuzz with music, food and culture. Caitrin and I were blessed to attend the games with Pop (Brittany's Dad) last week. It was most definitely an experience I won't forget. (For those of you who aren't familiar, the WEG's are the Olympics for horses.)
Last weekend we also went to Keeneland (the Churchill Downs on Lexington) to watch the morning workout and eat breakfast at the track kitchen. It was a beautiful, cold morning and a true Kentucky experience. Even though I (Brittany) grew up with horses, I'm always amazed at what beautiful, strong animals they are.
We rounded out last weekend with Caitrin's first visit to the pumpkin patch. (My friend Sarah, a fellow Florida native, said, "it's a REAL pumpkin patch.") Caitrin had fun pulling he wagon to pick out her pumpkin and visiting the local farm animals. We hope to visit this same farm in a couple of months to cut down our Christmas tree!
